I put these Avons on not too long before RAA III and road them to Eureka Springs. They now have 10K miles on them.
Most of my riding involves a 70 mile round trip to work and back with 3 varied routes that are mostly non-stop. One has some okay curves that I like to hit hard sometimes, but mostly I have to look at for "Farmer Bob" pulling out in his 1956 poll truck or something. I spin the rear on occaision, at the local bike night, or if I just feel like takin' off like, well.. like a Rocket.. I also like to take a long distance trip to somewhere annually.. Haven't got to do that this year yet..
Overall, I am VERY pleased with them. The only thing I would not recommend Avons for is drag racing. The center appears to be a harder compound that lasts longer, but sacrifices some traction on hard, or sometimes even semi-hard take offs.. That's okay with me though. If I were to be serious about drag racing, I would have a 245 Bridgestone Potenza or the like..
I'm posting links because these picture were taken with my wife's Nikon D50 and they are very large and detailed.
I don't know man, looks like the rear threw redish orange crap up on your pretty blue bike. I can tell it come from the tires because the pattern is basically the same.
Don't listen to those guys, I've personally seen all of them. I want to know how long your Metz lasted in comparison. I have 14000, on my dark and if I can get close to that on an Avon I might go back. I'd have to break my right hand of a bad habit I got at stop lights, fogging for mosquitoes.
That's remarkably good mileage with the Avon. Were you to get 14k, I too might be persuaded. That would be every 14 months versus my average of every 8 months with the Metz x3 times.
A harder center The dual-tread compound (DTC) from Bridgestone was my preference for years. I saw a minimum of 5k increases with them.
I've not seen much from Bridgestone on this attribute these daze.
It's the "sacrificing some traction" part that makes me nervous. After the braking lock-up scares I had with the Metz, I don't think that I'd be comfortable with something that has even less traction. It's great that you're getting improved mileage but sacrificing traction is not for me.
I've accidentally locked up both the Metzelers and this Avon, but I know about where the threshold is now, and it has not been a problem. Something I havent' done with the Avon for some reason is try to pull the front wheel up. I will have to do that..
