We got a call a couple of nights ago from a friend that also rides a Rocket III. He was asking if we heard about the new tire Avon was producing for the Rocket III. He said the middle part that wears so bad is supposed to have thicker rubber. Tire is supposed to be similar to the stock with the rounded edge for cornering, not square like the car tires some of us have tried for the longer wear. Has anyone heard anything about it or tried it out yet?

I have a set on order, supposed to arrive end of this month, I'll report back on feel and eventually on milage and wear, nobody in the USA has them yet

Avon History

I for one will buy a set to try. I currently have Avon tires on my Valkyrie dating back to last summer and am really happy with the ride and service of the tire. I actually accepted them because I couldn't locate Dunlop's. So far So good....SB...:D

I look forward to your report Regulator. I understand the Avon tire price is commensurate with the Metzler. I've a Cooper Zeon 2XS on it's way right now. Cooper describes this car tire shape as "rounded" with thicker center tread. It's tread wear rating is 280 so I expect it to be somewhat soft for greater grip. I replaced the first Metz. at 8100 and was running on borrowed time. This second Met is getting real close to that mark now. I might expect a tad more on this one due to these near 8k miles have been largely during the past cooler months. At $365 per tire, my annual rear tire costs is about $550 just for the rear. I got 13.5k out of the first front tire with very significant cupping at time of replacement. I put on ~1k miles per month.
