Just wondering if anyone else with 'modified' RIII has had problems with drive unit bearings and shaft coupling. Is it all down to laterel force and strain from my rear car tyre, or is it just any RIII with the misfortune of worn parts? I've just done 22,000 miles and come up with the problem as my warranty comes to an end.

A trike guy in OZ did have problems as well as bone stockers and everyone in between. You'd better do a search on the torsional dampener bearing or transmission problems.

transmission

I hate to be negative here but I have two trikes and a rocket three and I did a whole load of research before buying my trikes. The sad fact is that something that is designed to drive a single rear wheel is not really up to driving two rear wheels and a heavier overall frame. I have come across countless shaft drive trikes and chain driven trikes, Fine for 5-10k miles and then nothing but trouble. The Rocket (god forbid mine hasn't started to suffer yet) has a reputation for transmission issues as is, so strapping all that heavy stuff on is bound to show up issues. I am surprised you got to 20k miles with none. i would suggest if still under warranty you insist they fit a new transmission and sell it on.

I have two car engined and transmissioned auto trikes. Totally bulletproof. But, I made mistakes too. Bought a blade engined lotus 7 and guess what, nothing but transmission problems... you never learn!! :)
