I have heard that you need to put some miles on your new bike with the original oil before you change to syntetic, i have heard anywhere from 1000 to 3000 miles, who is right and who is wrong?
I just bought a bunch of mobil1 t4 and want to use it in all my bikes except the harley (different weight) I have bikes ranging from 2,000 to 32,000 miles, do you guys see any problem there?

Have you read the manuals? Do any of them specify a break-in oil different from the standard fill? Do any of them come with Dino fill instead of full synthetic?

I don't think break-in oil is used a lot any more, but I could be wrong. Some manufacturers recommend a certain number of miles before switching to full synthetic, likely to aid in seating the rings.

In any event, I'd go by the manufacturer's recommendations. Some will recommend oil changes at as little as 600 miles, others go the full oil change interval on the factory fill. Without any guidance from the manufacturer, I'd probably go at least 3K miles before changing.

I don't think it makes much of a difference if you break a motor in with dino oil as installed from the factory or if you drain it and break the motor in with synthetic. Post break-in or after any period of riding with dino oil, it's perfectly fine to convert to the appropriate synthetic.

Yes you do.......gives the rings and valves time to "seat" and for the gears and such to "deburr" themselves. Then when you change it, all the crap should come out. Now I thought Triumphs break-in period was 600 miles. Triumph also uses a synthetic blend (50% dino and 50% synthetic) in the original oil. After first service it is recommended to put in full synthetic but not necessary. You can use a synthetic blend instead of full synthetic but I wouldnt recommend it since the change interval is lengthy.

Now on other engines it depends. Car motors are usually after first change (3000 give or take a few hundred). I dont think there is a hard and fast rule. Thats why the suggestion of following manufacturers recommendation is always good advice.

mutt

The bike with less miles is the ninja, it has little over 2,500 and the first oil change was done at 1,000 miles so it is past the break in point, for what i'm hearing i'm safe?
The reason i want to go with mobil 1 for all my bikes is so i don't have to remember which bike uses what, my memory is not as good as it used to be

Just leave that old Rocket with me and I promise to remember which oil to put in. Just so you can relax and not worry
