hi all, my new 09 has an intermitent tach f/u since the 500 mile service. i DO NOT think it had any thing to do with the service. i took it back at 1054 miles a few days later. they were very prompt and took it right in. the mechanic checked and said nothing could be found. counter guy said something about contacting triumph and also that rockets have known gauge issues. please imput your vast knowledge. at 1400 miles and 15 days of ownership i love the bike, but a tach wandering between 5-6000 rpm or 6-7000 rpm at idle is a little irritating. thanks in advance. paul.

but a tach wandering between 5-6000 rpm or 6-7000 rpm at idle is a little irritating.

We can assume the engine IS actually idling,( 7-800revs) not self revving to 6k? and you've checked the obvious stuff, loose wiring to the tacho, and no water around( ie washed the bike & got water in the electrics)?
After the obvious.. hit the dealer.

hey bones, the bike started the floating tach right after the 500 mile service. i had washed the bike the day after. i did use the hose only-no nozzle-after covering the exhaust, handle bar controls, ignition switch just as the manual specified. the day after washing was the trip back over hwy2 to everett from spokane.dry all the way over. the tach problem surfaced then. sunday the 8th i rode back from lynnwood in solid rain w/ the exception of moses lake. worse ever since. the bike is garaged. i will let it heat up in the sun a few more days. if the problem is not gone by the end of the month. i will contact triumph. paul.
