10k service costs ?


@Bedifferent - The current manual's maintenance interval calls for valve clearance check at 10k miles and then every 20k miles (30k, 50k, etc.). If you want to keep your factory warranty, I'd check it. Never heard of anyone having problems at 10k though... I agree with you about the dealer mechanics, very hard to find good ones.

 

I guess I'll have around 500 miles in the spring to think about. I agree and I hear what you're saying...I just think it's stupid at that point in time. Maybe the factory just wants us to bear the cost of the valve check to see as to whether someone screwed up during the initial assembly on their end. Ya think? Sounds like a plan to me.
 
We had a 2005 Bonneville. Took it to the Dealership in Tulsa Oklahoma for a valve clearance check. The bike was not making any noise at all when we took it in but upon riding home it sure in the hell was. Studied up on shim type valve adjustment and checked valve clearance out about two weeks later. Fixed the clearance on about 2 intakes and two exhaust. Bought a shim kit made adjustments myself. The bike ran great after that. The Service manual for the Rocket Three Roadster states valve clearance check at 10,000. It may not be necessary to make adjustments but it states check. The exhaust can get tight with out making any noise which can become a problem. Better safe than sorry. It is not that hard to check but it will become more involved if you have to change out a shim. Even so it is not that hard to do. Alpental your one sharp cookie. (just saw your post)
 
Your not in the Navy are you? Spent some time down around Oceanside in 70's as a Marine and some time in the 90,s as a Sailor.

Man I can believe that. Been in Oklahoma for, the last twenty years and kind of miss the surf.

Let us know for sure what they say. I'll doing some checking at a couple around me and see if I can get an answer. You never know if they will be forthcoming as it's a way to make money.
 
This topic has been covered umpteen times over the years, a long time ago in a galaxy far far away when everyone was getting the 10000 mile valve check very few if any needed any adjustments as I said before at 44000 miles I just needed one adjusted and that one was not far off.
 
Who in their right mind would take these dealers at their word unless you know the ownership/management very well? Just the discrepancy in what they quote from shop to shop for a 10K mile service makes many of them suspect.

I haven't found an honest or competent Triumph dealer yet and it's going on 7 years since I started that quest.
