Evening all,
Has anyone experienced damage to the rear subframe adding luggage to current R3gt? I'm working on the theory that GT means grand tourer and designing a pannier and rear rack to allow longer trips away with a pilion, standard triumph stuff seems limited and the mountings look weak to me.

I have the R and it's the same/same. I tour on it fairly often and fill the factory panniers no doubt beyond the limits (what is it 8 lbs?). The Roadster took on gear more easily, but I find that I can do pretty well with the newer bike.

As to the factory panniers they are not ideal, but I like the ease with which you can remove them and tuck away the brackets. The odd shape makes packing difficult. Otherwise, I would get something like the Hepco C-bow
and a larger better designed set of waterproof bags.

I think any system you get is going to mount to the subframe the same way, unless you mod it- someone here has shown how they reinforced theirs (search). Edit added...

If you're really concerned you might find the bags that join over the seat, which would help support some of the weight and then connect to something like the c-bow. Another bracket I saw is sold on eBay... https://www.ebay.com/itm/257217854718?fits=Make:Triumph&_skw=triumph+rocket+3R&itmmeta=01KB56RH9G50KEWZQYGVKEX4K0&hash=item3be360fcfe:g:JYQAAeSw6X5pErqv&itmprp=enc:AQAKAAAA0FkggFvd1GGDu0w3yXCmi1espBkDNFDMm238cf97E/q6/E4C7g/lmdMRlXqDxYFYMA4rRPZxA1bCRst+qCbj0ptNuaDXkZqGAZdvg1IIYfE0lgRMMEuKTagA9Mau3RbNUVyOtSWEPzYAf52C+NGVtqr2WjmhyYhLsdyrPfxsb5eSkRjsQbzlWOPDAmSyYesakpp/g+L+eWBPrWO1UcMpyTa4wblNNcpmhZbDSdEn9rfY67DWYuQup71TxCajdiL8aH2Vrgp8kQPThXIAvJ8ZTds=|tkp:Bk9SR4SV4qbZZg

To me all of the mounts that copy the triumph mounting under the frame seem to be asking for failure, you would think some kind of link bar between the two would increase rigidity and allow for a bigger capacity bag.

This is what I was referring to earlier by @SPWL ....
