I've been riding for about two years now and I noticed that when I slow down to 35 or 40 mph in fourth gear, and then I give it gas to keep going it seems like I am pulling in on the clutch and allowing it to gradually get back up to speed but I'm not pulling in the clutch. Is that Is the transmission set up to do this in a gradual way?

I have the same problem. Seems like the engine takes a second or two to react to the opening of the throttle in fourth or fifth gear. I am betting it's the slow opening of the secondary throttle plates? I am sure someone who knows the cause will chime in shortly. While you are waiting, you might want to add to your avatar where in the US you reside and your model Rocket. Brings in a more personal touch to your entries. More importantly, helps those in the know analyze problems to a specific model or year. If new to the site, welcome aboard!

Welcome aboard. A word...downshift. Assuming you are riding a standard unmolested bike you are way out of the power band at 40 mph in 4th. Not sure about what the ecu is doing at that speed and gear but suspect you are lugging the engine.

Hello Zenobosche and welcome from Virginia. Like R3Tex says, you need to down shift at that point. My Rocket has a slight hesitation at 55 in fifth gear when I crack the throttle but recovers quickly. I now will usually down shift if I am going to go WOT at that speed.

yes - i usually do, my concern was that the clutch wasn't grabbing, it feels more like a CVT continuously variable transmission. it doesn't grab. but it doesn't look like i need clutch work. it is an amazing machine - the fellow i bought it from owned it for 9 years and put 12.6G on it. it is a dream

Doesn't sound sound like clutch since it's only doing that at 35 or 40 mph in fourth gear. But to make sure - get the clutch lever adjustment correct at the "barrel adjuster" @ 2-3 mm of free play - See attached
