There are indeed running lights. I will see if those switches have anything to do with the bike.
The previous owner left me about $1000 of extra parts and odds and ends related to this bike. If anybody wants something, I will make you a great deal.

A lot of the bits would get caught up in the sump screen. Which usually is the Torsional damper bearings. Earlier models seemed to have one of the bearings installed backwards forcing both of them to receive oil from osmosis OOOPS migration :) Some fail some people get lucky if you start hearing to much rumble I would drop the sump for a look see and clean out the some screens. Early small bits will get caught in the screen but make it under the screen baffle plate so make sure you pull them and clean them. Some of the swarf you will find in them are from manufacturing as you just can seem to get it all out. If the bearing goes you will find cage parts it will be the torsional damper. Now about the transmission, unless you thrash the heck out of it any of the failure that have occurred on the early models were rounding of dogs and and a selector bolt coming loose. You would not see debris from that. Another thing since your new to the bike and your hearing might be better is to make sure the clutch is adjusted correctly with the require 2-3 mm of free play so the needle bearing on the lifter piece is not sitting there spinning away as it will create a odd sound. If you decide to drop the sump pan use some permatex to attach the new gasket to the sump pan and then just apply some light grease to the engine side. This will make it so you can drop it the next time for inspection without having to replace the gasket.

I hope, and I am almost certain, that none of these issues come about. As I have said, the previous owner is loaded and has never done anything to the bike. He would take it to the dealer and have them go over everything to make sure it was in perfect working order. He also had 2 BMW bikes and a Honda ST1300. So he had plenty of bikes to choose from when he felt like it. That explains the low mileage on my R3.
