Veterans Day

My lottery number was 6. Volunteered for the draft in the Army. One tour Vietnam 69-70. I did receive a 30 day early out to go into uniform on the Police Department on my 21th birthday.

Thanks to all who have served and especially those who have given the ultimate sacrifice. In my humble opinion I will always honor the veterans of WWII as true American heroes. Their numbers are decreasing daily. What a generation, when my Father left in 1941 he didn't have any idea when he would return home. It was four years later. Bless them all!!!!!

Today my great aunt, Eloise Huffhines Bailey (far left), received the Congressional Gold Medal (the nation's highest civilian award) for her service as a WASP in WWII. She is too frail to make the trip to the formal ceremony in D.C. next April so a ceremony was held today in the WASP Museum in Denton, Tx.

I agree Britman. My Grandad was in the thick of it for 3 years. He was a Marine over in Sipan. He told me that of the 63 men from his boot camp that shipped out together, only 3 made it back home. He says that "the" bomb saved his life. They were in route to China when the atom bombs were dropped on Japan.
It was the freedom loving, do it yourself spirit of that generation that made this country great. Unlike the what can you do for me, welfare minded, wealth redistribution ****s that run our country today.

Britman, well you got me beat, I was #14 in 1971, but it did force me to go ahead and take the plunge and join the Navy. The funny thing was my mom told me I got my draft notice that December (got into boot camp Oct. 27th.) for the Army.

My Dad did 19 years, six months as a Yeoman. My son got right out of high school in 2000 and joined, part of the time on a sub, and when he got a kidney stone, transferred over to the Seabees, got out in 2006. Me, I only served for 21 years and 10 months (downsized after Desert Storm). One thing after 7 different ships I sure did get to see a lot of places I only could dream of as a kid.

Now I'm over here, my hat is off to the guys that are out in the remote FOBs (Forward Operating Bases) out on the front line of this God forsaken country over here, they have to do without a lot as others have done in the past, but they all seem to have a great attitude and I'm glad to be able to get the water to them so that they can take a hot shower and such whenever they can get a chance to come to our "main" hub camp.

After High School 82-84 BBDE and four more in reserves. .. I also want to say thanks to the Fire, Police and other emergency responders who put their lives on the line daily on the home front. They are the front line warriors daily serving and protecting our ass.
