Triumph Motorcycles (America) Ltd., announced today that new retail sales in the U.S. reached 1,536 units in June, which is a new single-month sales record for the Hinckley, UK based motorcycle manufacturer. This is a 17% increase over the same month last year. Triumph's previous record was 1,445 units retailed in May 2007.

.........Smaller displacement sport bikes, dual purpose bikes and scooters are in very hot demand as gasoline prices advance and retreat but the market stays basically unstable. .........

I see no mention of Triumph's larger displacement motorcycles, only the smaller models. I suspect that trend will continue as the economy continues to sour here in the States. People, in general, are looking for more fuel efficient modes of transportation. Motorcycles provide that means........

There is a downside to the increased sales of motorcycles and scooters. That is a marked increase of riders with marginal skills and experience on the roads as well as riders not using proper protective gear. Combine those two and you have a recipe for a higher incidence of traffic related injuries and deaths.
