After 17500mi, (2500 turbo'd), I may have my first mechanical problem... Riding Saturday evening and temp light comes on... Limp a few miles to the Sheetz store... Figured just need some coolant.. Sure enough the bottle was dry... Go in and buy a jug of antifreeze, pop the bearclaw and fill it... Start the bike back up... Bike only seemed to drink a small amount... After 5 min of idling, the temp light comes back on.. Shut off bike.. I then notice coolant spray on the right side of the engine, pipes, exhaust guard, etc... Spray is at about the same level as the thermostat... I suspect the thermostat is stuck shut or went south all together... Might also be water pump... Saw small leak by seal (a few drops)... Bolts on the water pump cover took 1/4 turn... So now to get the bike home... Not gonna drive it 30mi to home... AAA motorcycle upgrade not available here... Called towing company, they wanted $180-200 - Screw that!!! Called my dealer at home and left a message, no reply... So I call my kid to pick me up and left the bike under the parking lot cam at Sheetz for the night... Advised night manager it was there.. They said they would watch out for it... Since I havn't gotten around to a trailer yet, I decided to rent a Uhaul for the day to retrieve the bike... This morning my dealer called me and apolgized for not calling me last night... He was at a wedding.. He opened up the shop and let me borrow his trailer to get my bike... (Gee Mike, why do you always rave about Triumph of Windber!) So we will bring it in first thing Monday and see whats going on... Will let you know..

Dammit, Mike. :x  Why didn't you call me, brother. I have access to a nice aluminum trailer and would have been right up to get you. I'm sole proprietor of HJRRS...Honest John Rocket Recovery Service 8)

No, but really, next time, and hopefully there won't be a next time, CALL ME! Same goes for any other Captain who runs into trouble in my neck of the woods. 8)

Capt, would be interested in what's troubling your Rocket. I hope it's a small fix.
The same goes for all the Rocket Capt's in my area , I have a 5x8 enclosed just waiting for troubled R3's! Really it's no problem! Bruce 239-272-5766. Somebody should make a sticky for "Volunteer R3 Recovery" in different areas!!

The Gold Wingers have a book that lists the guys that are willing to come to the rescue of fellow Wingers. It's a great idea but keeping the book updated is the big problem. We could do one on the internet, but who would administer it? Owl, I'm willing to bet he's got a full enough plate already. Having it on the internet opens a new problem of just who has access to the information contained in it. I would not mind many of you having my cell phone number or other contact info, but there are some that might use the info for rather than less honorable uses. So where does this leave us? Right back at square one, I do have an idea but as it requires money being spent for webspace, I don't think it would ever fly.

If anyone needs anything while travelling through SE TN or NW GA, I have an enclosed trailer, an F-350 and a full shop of tools and equipment to help get you back on the road, plus I only live 6 minutes from I-75. All you have to do is give me a call and I'll come out and load you up as best as I can, given that I am crippled, you may have to help  and get you to a motel or I have a spare room that you are welcome to use, it even has a bed. Just give me a call (423) Eight Eight Three - Nine 3 Five Seven, the name is Joe.

Hmm, bad pump or thermo I'm guessing?

No white exhaust or anything right?

I think its the thermostat because I noticed fluid splotches on the right side over the exhaust headers.... Right at the level and side the themostat is... They are going to check the thermostat, all hoses, radiator and water pump... No white exhaust...

Mike...

I got an
How about making a sticky listing the area that each Captain would sponsor and then it is up to the Captians visiting or living in those areas to PM the sponsoring Captain to let them know they would like their private phone number in the case of an R3 breakdown. Pretty much as a precaution or as a preparation plan for your trip or just to have handy in an emergency. That way they would at least have to be a member to get your private number. Or can the info be listed in a thread that can only be accessed by members? Just an idea may be a stupid one I'm not too versed on forum administartion and don't know all the tricks.

Sorry CC did't mean to hijack your thread!!! Forgive me!!!!

Bummer to hear about this, Mike. Hope it gets fixed without trouble. That turbo is just frying the crap outta yer bike!

Why do you keep talking about the fuel pump? Don't you mean water pump? I also believe the thermostat is on the left side above the oil tank. The right side just has the main coolant flow from the water pump to the engine case.

Yes, I mean water pump.... Fuel pump was my truck a few weeks ago.. I thought the Themostat was on the right side of the engine... Hard to tell from the service manual breakout drawing... Maybe a bad hose or fitting there on the right side...
