Not sure what this bit's actually called - I've always called it the ignition moose for obvious reasons.

Just wondering if the rust is common to others? Bike is 4yrs old and ridden all year round so she has seen a fair bit of rain, but the moose has been under the fly screen since about 6months old.

None of the other chromed parts show anywhere near the same amount of deterioration.

Live by the sea?
My "moose" is 5 years old and in perfect condition.
Always garaged -

First thing that hit my mind when I looked at your pictures......salt.

I have a black Roadster so that part got sprayed with Plastidip. I knocked Plastidip for a while but decided to try it on that very part. It has held up for a long time. Plastidip sounds like a cheap solution to make chrome parts black but shoot it works. It adds a layer of protect another words. :D

Well if you clean your bike and spray it with LEMON PLEDGE it wont rust give it a try youll be happy with the results it will look new and be rust free forever and spray the complete bike it wont hurt anything on the bike
 
Don't have that problem and live about 500m from the ocean by crow, always undercover and ridden year round............Triumph's hit and miss chroming?
