Guys

I bought a second hand set of risers for my 2008 R3 standard from one of the members here, unfortunately I didn't recieve the brake line bracket, spacers or nut and bolts.

The Rivco bracket doesn't appear to do much from reading the instructions and looking at the photos, so my question is it really needed, if they are do you think that the OEM bracket suitably modified would suffice?

Thanks and Regards

Peter

The bracket you refer to I think is the Y-bracket holder that bolts in under the triple tree. That bracket (small metal tab) is to allow enough space for the brake lines without crimping or over stressing the lines when you pull the bars back 2 inches. It is the anchor point for the brake lines as well so they are secured to the forks. Most of the people I've seen on this forum don't bother with it becasue it is a pain to properly mount and adjust so it doesn't rub the finish of your radiator shroud (surround) with the brake lines at full steering lock. You can fashion your own bracket from some stock material (available at Home Depot or Lowes) if you want to anchor the brake lines. If you don't mind them flopping in the wind, leave it off and get a set of Flipmeisters brake line holders that replace the cheese plastic clips on the fender and you'll be fine. Good Luck.

One other note: Don't take the handlebars off THEN try to remove the stock risers unless you like the look of gouged eyebrows in your top triple tree yoke. Ask anyone who's tried it. To avoid the necessity of the chrome blingy cover to hide your engraving, remove the nuts that hold the risers on first, then remove the handlebars.

Pretty easy to make your own or find something similar at your local Ace Hardware.

When I tried to use the supplied brake line bracket (on my failed Rivco riser install), it wanted to position and bend the coupling of the left brake line against the bottom rear edge of the lower triple tree. Not a good fit.

Had a similar problem with the brake line bracket. In what way did your install fail?
