They forgot to mention that Triumph's been in business a year longer than Harley.

I'd say that gives Triumph the right to the title of ORIGINAL !
 
yea, but Dave, they never quit production, I mean true they were bought and manufactured by a bowling ball mfgr. But theirs IS a continuing legacy. Now don't get me wrong, I'm sure not fighting their case here, just stating a fact or two. But you're right, TRIUMPH is older, a fact I never let my H-D rideing buddys forget..xhdskip

Anyway . . I dont have the link here with the timeline for triumph BUT . . they have actually been building bikes the whole time . . I think. Seems when I read the timeline that there was actually a couple of experimental models with the Triumph name on them between Meridan and Hinkley . . . One was a 4 cylinder . . .

I'll chase it up tomorrow at work.
 
Yes.. even though none were imported into the states, I believe a small number of Triumphs were built under contract each year between 1983 and 1991 just to keep the name alive. They were not experimental models, just a continuation of the 1983 model. I personally have not seen a Triumph built past 1983, but this is what I have read anyways.

Triumph did have a four cylinder "Trident".. (Quadrent?.. lol) about ready to go into production. They also had there own version of the 8 valve (4 valve per cylinder) Bonneville ready to go, but they went under before these could be brought into produciotn. Both of these were still push-rod models to the best of my knowledge and still would have been light years behind the venerable Honda CB750.

Xhdskip.... Sorry to burst your bubble but the link below will confirm my "Original" statement. Triumph has continually produced motorcycles since 1902.... a full year before Hardley got going. Probably just a latent lapse from a used to be HD rider. I'm glad you made the switch even though you look a lot better in leather than I do.
