hi all, from good old sunny UK,( for a change ).
I've just removed my secondaries and fitted K&N;s etc and a PC V as well, and now i have an emgine management light on !. bike starts etc OK haven't had a run out yet though. the PCV had a map to my requirements fitted when sent.
has anyone got any ideas about the MGR light being on.
thanks in advance.
cheers

If you turned the key on when anything such as the temp probe was unplugged, the ECU logged a trouble code and turned on the check engine light. You can verify the code and erase it with an OBDII code reader available at auto parts stores. If you can't find one in a parts store they are available online and are cheap. The readers will work on any OBDII system including cars.

Hi I don't think i had anything unplugged when i turned key first time after fitting, but will look into getting one of the reders things.
cheers

They are particularly handy when taking your car into be inspected for tag renewal ... in those states where they plug into the car and read codes or fail you if your check engine light is on, you can erase the codes and turn off the light while you wait in line for inspection. LOL

My MINI is very modified and the O2 sensor throws a code about once a month due to the exhaust mods and new location of the second sensor. They still work fine and the car runs strong, but the DMV would fail it if the light was on and code still stored when they plugged into it during inspection. So I just keep a small version of the reader in the car so I can erase the code and turn off the light when it comes on. The basic readers only cost around $15-20 at Harbor Freight, worth every penny to have handy.

Most codes are standardized for all makes and models with differences only being for things that are unique to the car. The readers come with a booklet that has lists of the standard codes and will tell you what the codes mean. An example would be that all secondary ignition trouble codes begin with P03--, a P0301 would indicate a miss in cylinder #1, P0302 in cyl #2 ... etc.. (some simply list P301, P302 etc..)

Not in Arizona, there has to be a certain number of on/off cycles between last check engine light reset and test or you fail.

I wondered who would get wise to that eventually. It wouldn't surprise me if more states have that mandate as well. The newer and bigger the memory gets on ECU's the more events they will log, I'm sure eventually they will tattle on you for speeding while renewing your tags one day. Can you imagine that .... going in for tags and getting a speeding ticket for 6 months ago?!? Wouldn't that suck.

Except new york where they hook you up to a computer and it reads the ecm and determines how long it has been since the codes have been reset and then determines not enough time has passed since the last reset and now it will fail the emissions......fing ny
So the safety part will pass...the com will spit out a temporary inspection good for 10 days. You have that time to get it fixed
