Newbie joins the gang!

Hi folks,
Looks like a swell party you got going here! I've just collected my '04 original RIII from my buddy who has moved to a brand new Ducati Diavel Carbon Black (bootylicious machine!). So now I have a Rocket to add to my '04 Honda Rune, muscle and more muscle, you might say!
The only problem with the Rocket is my buddy was a total stranger to chrome polish and wax so even with just 9,500 miles on the clock I've got rust and tarnished wheels to sort out. I'm also looking for tips on where to get a nice big, fat touring seat for my wife to lounge on.

Congrats on the new ride. I too own a Valkyrie and a Rocket. Though mine is not the Rune.

hi doug,yea it has been sunny, can't understand it. i've got the dual touring seat on my standard r3. same front but wider at the pillion and with provision for a rider backrest. its not big enough to spoil the looks too much but much more comfortable for mrs stuvin. when she's not clawing at the back of my jacket she can nod off.

Welcome!!!! From cloudy upstate New York!! Russell Daylong (Custom Motorcycle Seats and Touring Saddles - "Day-Long" Touring Saddles and Motorcycle Seats by Russell Cycle Products) seats are very popular custom made seats. It is a process though to get it and you have to send them a seat pan to convert....also measurements of you and the missus and pictures to boot! But in the end its worth it! My next purchase will be this seat. Although an off the shelf would deliver much faster...good luck!

Welcome from Arkansas, USA. Kmutt is steering you right on the Russell saddle. I bought mine used and it had a Corbin on it. Very firm and the Russell's that I've sat on felt great.

An alternative to the elbow grease is to have it professionally detailed. Might cost a penny but will start you off in good nick. (How's that for somebody on this side of the pond?)

I swapped the seats on my '09 Standard for the dual touring seat off a Classic. I actually have two - one with and one without the rider's backrest and can change them over in about 5 seconds. I find the seat much better for the rider as it kicks up at the back a bit more, and infinitely better for the pillion; it's flat and broad and very comfortable (I'm told). Looks good on the bike and is actually blacker than the Standard's seats. I've seen them for around $100 - $150 second hand. I also swapped the small pillion backrest pad for the larger (and blacker) curved one off a Classic. Cost less than $40 and goes with the seat better.
