My boys and I share that luggage, at most two bags will be strapped together for a total of about 16" high.
When you say remove the pillion do you mean strap luggage right to the rear fender?

That's what I do using a flannel patch to protect the matte black.
A low mount rack would be good as well. That pillion takes up a lot of room.
I have a back rest that aids in the mounting as well.

Great idea, never thought of it. I didn't realize how much room that seat takes up until you remove it. As soon as I read your post I went out and took it off and fitted a couple of those bags, what a difference.
I have the backrest as well. I plan on mounting my tent and sleeping bag to the luggage rack.

I made a rack to put in place of the pillion seat, I basicly had to since the pillion seat was where my backrest mounted on the Russell seat. Now the rack holds the backrest, I mounted a Givi plate to it, and I use one of the old Traffic cases that Givi doesn't make anymore. It's the perfect size so I can lock up my lid, I never seem to remove it. I guess you would definitely say mine is dressed, but I also use the easy brackets & the bags come off asap!
^^^that looks very clean, love the seat. I have been reading about the Russell Day Longs for quite a while now. How do you like it? Did you send in your seat pan or opt for the drive in service?
