I had the same issue on my Touring back in 2010, dealer said a crush washer was missing, FWIW.
But were those mirrors same as 2.5 or? This is just a ball and socket design.

New ones have a nut connecting mirror to stem.
Btw just found out don't need to go past 100 mph for movement, just accelerate hard.
