Was the trailer attatched to the tow vehicle with a lock intalled?

Yes...it probably would have been easier to steal the van with the trailer attached.

With the battery powered tools( recip.saws, grinders with cut off blades,etc.), takes just seconds to cut a lock, and they're gone. Look at the catalytic converter thefts. Some poor misunderstood soul. Sorry for your losses.

Yep, I was a little worried about the catalytic converter theft...I missed the big picture.
