I was clarifying the brakes with the seller and he said the "the rear brakes work, but just not great" - so he really does not know if it the pads of something else.

That makes sense. The 14 has ABS and when you apply the rear brakes alone it feels like it's 'mushy' when in actuality it isn't. The ABS is set up to use the most pressure on the front brake with a slight 'feathering' to the rear brake for most stops. For sudden stops with ABS you can stomp on the front and rear and you will hopefully safely come to a stop because the brake system is doing the work for you. The ABS was made for panic stops so when folks grab the brakes they don't go ass over tea kettle. I didn't think I would care for the ABS as I had the emergency stop thing down pretty well but I do like it now. It certainly takes the guess work out.

Wow... good deal. Back in July I bought that same year/model with 19k miles from a dealer and paid $8,300. You're gonna love it...
