Just installed the auxilary lights from walmart, pair of 50 watt 2" round lights, work exelent, installed an inline 5 amp fuse, after 5 minutes it blew the fuse, caording to my experirnce with electricity, i should be pulling 1.1 amps with 100 watts, that would be if i was using houshold 100 volts.
Is it different with 12 volts? If it is what is the correct formula so i can size the fuse correctly?
Thanks,
Lupe

Same formulae Mex. 100watts at 12 volts - current = watts/volts =
100/12 = 8.3 amps. Your 5amp fuse aint big enough, try a 10amp fuse. Make sure your wiring will take it. Check my maths also!!!

Thanks Cptn Jack, thats what i did, i installed a 10 amp fuse, the wire that comes with the lights is way too thin, i hope it handles it, these things are very bright, and get hot, havn't have a chance to run them yet with the new fuse, hope i don't fry my rocket:D
What can i expect for $18 dollars:p

did you use a relay? My aux lights with 55 w bulbs needed to go with 15 amp fuse and I did use a relay and 14 g wire all around.
hope this helps.

when i added my fog lights from my classic to my r3t i just added a 10 amp fuse ran it directly to battery no relay have had them on there for 2 years and no problem

u eed to turn your lights out they r blinding me :D:D:D

No, no relay, i connected them directly to the battery, the wire is too thin but it comes out of the light assembly so no replacing it,
What is the advantage of using a relay?
Rainman, the lights are for when i ride with you, rain, fog, you know:D

Hi Mex, glad you got sorted. A relay by the way simply allows you to use high current devices (e.g. lights), without all that current going through your low current rated switch. The switch uses a low current & a lightweight cable to energise a relay which makes/breaks contacts which are capable of carrying the high current needed to power your lights. It is a better alternative but if all your wiring is safe to carry the current & the fuse is the correct rating you should be ok, but make sure that cable is heavy enough or you have made your own electric fire -not a good thing:eek: & ensure the switch is capable of the current used or you will weld the switch contacts together (lights on all the time then).:)If the wire was supplied with the lights it should be ok but what switch are you using ? Nice lights BTW, now I know how mine looks.

This particular kit from Wallymart isn't connected to any other circuits so no need for a relay. It also comes with it's own switch and fuse link. The fuse that came in my kit was a 10 amp. I'm curious if yours came with the 5 amp.

btw, where did you end up mounting the switch? Mine is installed in the right-side neck cover.
