I must admit , I am somewhat a buffoon when it comes to electrics and wiring . Tis witchcraft !
You captains out there who have fitted LED lights , could you please tell me what should be done with the sidelights which are made redundant from the headlights when fitting daymakers , my thoughts are just to remove the bulbs and tape up the holders , but would that work ? I dunno I'm stoopid !
 
Leave the bulbs in and tuck the wiring behind the new Daymakers.

Great thanks . That may explain the second part of my problems ? I removed the bulbs and taped up the holders , only to find I then had no power to the rear cluster . So I removed the holders and joined the wires , this course of action seems to instantly blow the 5amp fuse when the ignition key is turned , maybe the is one of the issues @DEcosse was referring to ? It's been baffling me !
 
yes best leave something e.g. bulb or bulb base in the sockets dude, they're flexible, when you remove those bulbs, the contacts can touch each other,,, bang there goes a fuse
 
Every word you just used to describe yourself, well I have been saying the same about you for years now maybe everyone will believe me
 
When you remove the bulbs, the terminals in the lamp holder tend to short together causing the fuse to blow
And connecting the wires together is a MAJOR NO-NO!!!! (that of course is a direct short!)
If you already cut the sockets off (which I presume you did to join the wires together?) then you don't need to do anything (well maybe just a piece of tape over the yellow wire to be sure the end can't short on the shell)
i.e. cut the sockets off but leave the wires unterminated - and especially not to each other!!! (but taped over the ends)
 
Nath, i had the same problem when i did mine. Like they say, the terminals have a 'spade' fitting on the end right? If you just tape them up. they can short out within that spade fitting and 'pop' goes the fuse...taillight dont go then either.
i put the bulbs back in and tucked the whole lot in the back of the housing.It does get a bit tight in there for room tho.
If you desire, you could wire some blue leds into that park light fitting and have them under the fuel tank or somewhere. Then at night when you park the bike, turn the parklights on and 'WALAH!!"..you got blue lights shining down..i have seen that on a BigDog chopper at a bbq and it looked pretty cool...
 
while back someone had lights shining on ground from footpegs? that spelled out Triumph cant remember who thought it would look good shining off bottom of forks at night instead of leds on motor
 
Just hop on and ride to your nearest OCD looney with shed loads of wiring gear - Get him/her to wire some snazzy DRL's to the wires.
Real obsessive looneys might even have some lying about.
