'13 Rocket III Roadster
G'day Oz riders...to facilitate my attendance at RDU Melbourne next year I am looking to get a rocket set up with a few goodies and send it to Oz. The current plan is to send the bike down, ride a couple of weeks, and then sell it. I am still in the process of figuring out exactly how to get it in the country, legally tagged, and then sell it but I have some time to work that out. Since I will have the boss with me the bike will get set up more for touring than as a hotrod. I started bidding on an '07 Classic yesterday. If I can pull this off I would appreciate any help you guys could offer with a prospective buyer. My thoughts on the bike are as follows:

'07 - '09 Classic, Corbin Beetle bags, windshield or fairing (haven't decided yet), keyless ignition, EB kit, Ramair filter and LED lights. I may do a Russell Day Long seat as well, we will just have to see what the boss thinks about the stock seat. It may also get to make a trip to Birmingham to see Wayne so that I know it will be as ready as I can make it for the trip

If you guys know anyone that may be in the market for a Rocket as described above please let me know. Thanks

Christ Morris ! I knew you worked in the oil industry, I didn't know you had a well in your living room ;)

Not sure...as you said need to get numbers for compliance, etc and I don't have those yet, but based on what I've seen you guys pay for a bone stock bike I figure I can do everything as above and still offer somebody a smokin hot deal and still break even. If somebody is interested I would even try to get the stuff on the bike that they wanted before it is shipped so that they wouldn't get raped as bad in the aftermarket.

By the time you import it, pay duties, and obtain compliance to enable Oz rego, it will blow the deal right out of the water. Why do you reckon us Ozzies don't buy those oh-so-cheap Rockets we see on US E-Bay and such??

Fergeddaboutit!! Get someone here to buy a bike locally for you, ride it, then leave it for re-sale. At most, you'll drop a couple of grand. Cheaper than your freight alone maybe?????

Kiwi outfit will bring a bike from the West Coast USA to Oz for $1,000AUD.. compliance cost you about $1,000 .. cheaper for post 1988 bikes. Tyres and rego be near another grand. Still reckon there's a dollar or two in it ;)

Based on the numbers I've seen so far I figure to have ~ $13k or less in the bike even with freight, compliance, rego and all of the add ons. Bikes I located in Oz were a couple grand higher than that. The other part is...I want to enjoy my time in Oz...riding a Rocket...one that I'm not scared to put a few thousand miles on while I'm there. Only one way I know to do that...turn the wrenches myself and then ship it over. The exercise is not really about making money on the bike, and in the end if no one's interested in buying it I will put the ***r back on a boat and bring it home ;)
