Back in the day when i was getting my drivers licence,at the end of the class they showed us a movie called "Signal 30". Kinda like faces of death but envolving cars. I remember the effect it had on everyone . In those days it was concidered the best means of educating the new drivers. We lost a lot of highway stars back then with their 4 barrell carbs and high performance engines. I lost 5 of my neighborhood friends one night in 1963 in a real bad car crash, it was on the front page of the Globe for almost a week. One of the guys Stewy taught me to ride a motorcycle in his field when i was twelve.Maybe if they had seen signal 30 they'd still be around today..

Okay TRIICK. You made your point. If my post offended anyone, that was not my intent.

YOU must understand that after 28 years in a career that exposed me to the worst atrocities ANY human can see, except a solider in combat, I am a bit jaded and blood and guts no longer bother me! I could tell you some stories that would have you running for your bathroom to throw up. But,,,,,I will refrain from that here.

My intent was to answer the question some of us had regarding how the riders helmet ended up several feet away from his body. Not to make anyone uneasy or sick to their stomachs. Hell I used to bring autopsy photos I had taken home and show them to my family so my kids would learn what guns, knives, vehicles, Etc. do to people so they would be careful when older! It's kind of an old family joke all of my grown up kids tell people. They say, "Oh yea, dad used to bring home those photos and show them to us at the dinner table." It's called "Gallows humor."

That was a very sad situation , as graffic as you detailed it , it is a reality , and dealing with such trauma does stay imbedded in a persons memory for ever . Ride safe guys
 
I still have several friends who are active in the department I retired from, so I hear about a lot of stuff that goes on. One of my friends is a 40 something motor. He is all excited, as he got his new BMW a couple of months ago. He is a test subject for the bike, as they have mounted a M4 on one side and a short Remington 870 on the other side. This is a new arrangement, as we only carried the shotgun on the ST1300's before.

I still scratch my head, as we got rid of the BMW's and the Harleys a few years ago and now we are going back to BMW's,,,,,? But my point is, I hear about our motors and the crashes and I watch the news and see all the agencies motors that go down. So all of that, along with the average riders that go down and at 61 it is starting to spook me a little.

We have had four fatal M/C crashes where I live in the last month. All cage caused except the last one. Last Saturday a young Marine crossed the center line on his sport bike and went head on with a Harley rider,,,,killing both of them. So yea, it has me thinking,,,,.
 
Like I said, muleskinner, I wasn't flaming you. I was not offended by your post, nor do I have thin skin or suffer from squeamishness. I simply thought that the post was superfluos given that the main purpose of a site like this is ostensibly to share in the joys of our common passion.

At the risk of being repetitious, everyone here knows how dangerous this pastime called motorcycling is, so I questioned why you feel compelled to share the grislier side of things.

Post what you like! I'll just skip over any such similar posts next time around.
 
Don't get all pissed off at me now,,,,. I rarely post morbid stuff, I just thought those who were wondering, like I was, how the riders helmet came off might want to know how it happened.
