Rocket III
Got the bypass ordered from the motorcyclegearshop just in time. Want to keep the 3 pipes for now and cut down on heat. Wife doesn't know -- got my warning on too much money on the Rocket. New rear is next   with only 4k and just a little tread left. Getting close to the 2mm warning. Darkside again or Avon. :?:

Happy hjolidays....but,,what do you mean darkside "again"? are you saying you only got 4k from your first darkside tire??? also has Avon come out with a tire?,,,didn't know...I'm getting ready to go with a different tire in the spring...

Jeez CW, if you only got 4000 miles on a car tire then you must be dragging and burning out every week, got a real cheap stink tire or you weigh like 600 pounds.

Barbary, Avon has a new line of performance cruiser tires (Cobra) with sizes to fit Rocket rear but not the front, surprisingly, unless you go with H rated 150/80HR17 for the Valk. Better to stay with the Metzeler V rated front to match.
See here: page 9

Sorry for the confusion.
1st tire OE @5500miles
2nd tire emergency car tire, took off at wifes request, it was cheap and had no steel in the sidewall so it flexed past the tread.
3rd tire and current OE tire and down to 2mm at just over 4K miles.

Now the correction hum----car tire or Avon.

Man ,,I had a lot of fun on those old Honda 90's...I'm still looking forward to a Goodyear Eagle F1 for my next tire...I'm sold on the traction/breaking aspects. For my uses, the cornering aspects of any tire is negated by my long feet where my bootheels hit the ground before the pegs scrape....

what's the problem with 4k for a back tyre???

is the American mile that much shorter?

I get about 3 1/2 k UK miles for a rear and think that's not too bad at all considering how much power you're putting through it

Wow... what's up

what's up with 4k?

I've got ~6500 miles on my classic and there still *plenty* of tire
left! Its worn very evenly too base and nice rounding on the
side walls.. I scrape the pipes in the twisties....

TnT, all I can say is that you must have different Metzelers to us in the UK.

Have gone through two of them - both lasted 3 to 4000 miles.

I'm sticking to the darkside from now on.

Owl, I have been wondering the same. Perhaps your Metzlers have a softer compound. I got almost 9K on my first rear....Most odd.

Great news about the new Avon!
I've put 5500 on rear Metz that was not new when I got the bike. The front Metz was new and still looks it.
I have Avon Venoms on both our Hondas & we are very happy with them. Of course due to 2 :!: rear flats on the Valk it has a new rear Avon & a 2/3 worn front. Kinda neat that both my bikes share the same 150/80/17 front tire size.
I just told my bike shop to get me a new Metz for near future use. I'll call him back & tell him to get the Avons instead! Keep my Brit bike all Brit! 8)
What's up with the Kraut tyres stock on a Limey bike anyway??
