Hi all.
I have another thread regarding this one about the MAP sensor, but I have another question for the collective.
This had the failing fourth gear problem, went away to have it sorted. Came back and all seemed well.... except the gear change was reversed, up for first down for the rest. Owner rejected it. Came back with normal gearchange action, owner happy.
However, I noticed that the linkage had been reversed, a new hole drilled in the gearlever on the other side of the gearlever from the factory position. (If you look at the gearlever, the factory hole for the linkage is to the rear of the gearchange shaft, this has had a new hole drilled at the front of the gearlever from the shaft). Whilst this solves the problem, I am not sure what is happening with the selector mech.... Any thoughts?

Well this is a new one for sure. Reversed gear selection after repair??? I don't know if that is possible with the internal mechanism, mind you, I've never had mine apart (one of the more experienced fellows can comment). I'm guessing the outer linkage was somehow initially hooked up wrong and from what you have stated it is really hooked backwards now to make things work right???

Please post some pictures. I'm guessing this is the 2005 Rocket from the other post?

Hi. It is the 2005. Waiting for the MAP to arrive then I'll be back to it. Photos to follow.
Cheers

After looking through some photos I'd better clarify that this is a heel and toe gear lever with a linkage up to the gearbox input shaft.

Some people switch/reverse the shift pattern because they think it's faster race shifting especially without using the clutch.
Does seem that way, but it is harder on the transmission. Especially hard on shift forks and easier to pop circlips out of their grooves.

I would say that you are probably going to be having the same problem
there is about 4 codes for the map sensor and each code means a different problem
there is also soft codes problems that appear after you drive a while
hard codes are codes that come back as soon as you clear them.
in my opinion you need to take care of these codes b4 you move on to fix any thing else.
