Fuel Gague Adjustment

Man ... don't those pictures just ROCK!?! Let's you look inside like an X-Ray.

I had it adjusted while under warranty by the dealer. They did manage to cut it down a bit from the 1/2 tank mark it was coming on at. But I still think it could be better so I tinkered with it myself and got in down a little more. It dawned on me that It wasn't the fact that the light came on before I thought it should, it was that the light was so **** bright that I felt everyone around me could see a yellow warning light on my bike. I can't stand to have the check engine light on in my MINI for fear someone might see it, so I carry my small OBDII interrogator and code eraser at all times. The MINI sets a code for the O2 being too rich for reasons we won't get into here.

I'm going to take the gauge apart next time and add a cover to the bulb so that when it comes on, it's not very bright. Just so it's a dim little reminder to get gas would make me happy. I hate bright lights on the dash, I know it's a warning ... but **** its bright!

I put a small push button on the back of my tach in the MINI that goes to the check engine light circuit on the printed circuit board. This way the light only comes on when I check for stored codes by pushing the button. It's gonna set codes, and it does about every two weeks. I could have just disabled the light, but I still want to know if something gets logged that isn't either a P0130 or P0172 code. The MINI is modified and will never stop setting rich and O2 sensor codes, that's just the nature of the beast since it has 225hp at the wheels now.

Yeah, I think I'll just dim the bulb on the R3's low fuel warning .... that should make me happy. :D
If and when I get around to it, I'll take pictures and **** as a how-to just in case someone else wants to do it too. (that is, if I remember )
