I am getting ready to look at a new front tire . The old one was put on by the previous owner . It is a stock 150/80/17.
Any recommendations as to brand or width???

tire combos

Macksan : I was looking at the need to replace both front and rear tires on my 2005 R3 . I was intrigued with the Bridgestone Excedra Max Radial "240/55-16" for the rear ,but I don't see a matching front tire by Bridgestone "150/80-17 !! Bridgestone rcecomends tires be change out with a matching tread design, speed rating and componds. Tire size proportions (say 55 series vs 50 series ) will effect under and over-steer and center of gravity I suppose ( not a tire - ologist by trade). I know I buy sneakers two at a time and the same design pattern for the sole!!

Rumbler.. I run the Bridgestone Exedra Max.. and the Bridgestone Exedra G502 on the front. The G502 is the factory front tire for GoldWings of some years. The G502 H-rated, not V-rated.. but then I don't run 150 MPH every where I go, so I don't see it as a problem.

So far so good. There are other posts around here for this combo. The taller rear tire does affect steering, making the Rocket more 'flickabke' but it also takes a bit away from straight line stability. It's not really a problem, just something I've noticed.

Tires

Tx our the tread patterns the same and did you stay with the std size of 150/80-17 up front. By the way have you visited the Glennbeck studio now that he's moved to Texas?

I've had real good luck with the Dunlop 404.
Sticks like glue and about twice the mileage of the metz.
Fixing to get two more of them,
as both Rockets need new front rubbers.

First off for Micksan.. since he started this thread.. lol I had good luck with the Avon Cobra and the Bridgestone G502 seems to be holding up well. I stay with the stock size though. A smaller tire would speed up steering, but at the expense of highway stability.. and most of my riding is highway.. I got a lot of cupping out of the front Metzeler tires, every time.. so I don't use them anymore..

Rumbler... I included a pic below before they were mounted. Not the same, but many front tires are not the same tread pattern as the matched rear. The side walls match well though and they look like a matched pair on the bike. And nope.. I have not visited the Glenn Beck studio.. lol I rarely get to visit anywhere at the moment, except work.. :) When I ordered the Exedra Max, the picture had the center line similar to the G502.. but when I received it, of course, there is no center line..

Anyone ever use the G701 Bridgestone radial?

I just put a G701 radial on the front of my Roadster. Only had it a couple of weeks so can't really comment other than it feel 100% better than my worn out Metzler, but then most new tires would. For the price I had to try it.
