I finally got around to replacing my front brake pads. I put it off cause I thought it was a difficult task. Two cotter key removals and ten minutes later I was done. They were only at about 50% wear, but made teribble noises.
The front pads on an 07 standard just come out the top of the calipers after removal of one cotter pin and Allen head bolt and the removal of the tension plate. So simple. Seriously, 10 minutes.
My front brakes had squealed since day one. Had it in the shop several times under warranty. Each time they cleaned them and they were good for 50 miles or so. This time I placed some "Disc Brake Quite" on the piston side of the pads before I put the new ones in. So nice. Also, after depressing the pistons back in I had NO brake lever after I was done for a few pumps. But after I got it pumped up, it is like new. Hardly any travel in the lever at all, brakes stop clean and quick, and no chatter or squeal.
So if you think it is a chore, it is not.
