Hi all! In Washington State, new owner of a used 2007 R3R and loving it! First long day riding today ran into an issue and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with it: after riding hard for 2 hours, started sputtering a little, check engine light came on, speedo dropped and soon as I got off the highway and got to a stoplight she shut off, all power lost! No ignition at all. No dash lights, start sequence, nothing. Battery is full and working as we tested it. I am a bit baffled as to what fuse/relay or otherwise component I am missing to check? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Check 20 amp fuse under seat. I think it is position 5.

First of all, g'day and welcome from OZ.

With the OEM wiring there is too much current going through the ignition switch and it melts the solder at one of the connections. This can be easily repaired by pulling the ignition switch apart and re-soldering the bad joint. However, you will have to remove two tamper-proof screws to get to the important bits. Some people have used dremel tools to do this, I did mine by removing the top fork clamp etc. Replace them with standard metric bolts or screws, which you can probably get from hardware or bolt supplier.

If you do not install the Eastern Beaver Relay kit, or something similar, then the problem will return. The EB kit takes the headlight current away from the ignition switch, giving you brighter headlights and no switch problems.

The key-less ignition by @DEcosse will resolve to burnt ignition issue and you don't have to mess about trying to get the key in the little hole.

Hey zzzmora and welcome from Bama! Sorry you had a bad experience to end a great ride. Bummer! Most of the guys on here are very knowledgeable and looks like you are being steered in the right direction. I have my bike in the shop getting some new tires installed and it has only been one day and seems like a week. I hope to have her back by the weekend! Get'er back on the road asap and enjoy.
