Here in my part of the country winter starts early. This year it started in early October and has yet to subside but has allowed enough short rides in sub 40 degree weather to be counted on one hand. Those rides have allowed me the strength to go on until spring comes once again. Thank God for Starbucks and hot chocolate!

During these "early" days of forced abstinence from riding, I arrived at the conclusion that I no longer liked the grey color of the sky and liked the color of my fat bottom lady even less. The graphite grey color never grew on me and as it turns out, I found it to be plain and really ho-hum. Then like a bolt of lightening (electrical stimulus to a dead mind) it hit me...I stripped her down and sent her parts and pieces to the body shop for a facelift.

While I waited for her surgical procedure to heal, I moved the radiator overflow, modified the bearclaw, got rid of the stock air intake, added the triple filters and made fuel charting changes to address the infamous and annoying decel pop issue.

Remember those "less than five days of quick trips with the mercury hovering around 32 degrees?" They were not only good for the soul but turned out to be excellent test sessions for the latest decel chart mod. My next stop will be the dyno shop in Pendleton OR, where I will demonstrate the superior torque and horse power of the Triumph Rocket III to the local Harley "expert"....and the color is right!

For those interested I have posted three new pics of the former "Silver Bullet". HMMM...maybe I should change my handle to Red Rocket.....just like my Super Gas car used to be....FAST RED......no graphics....no lettering....just plain Candy Apple FAST RED....

Until spring really gets here and the "G" forces try to rip the handle bars from my bored fingers.......I steadfastly proclaim by distain for winter.....:)...SB..

Flip...it is good to get out for just a few minutes...is it not? I have been following the exploits of your fat bottom girl. Glad to hear the mechanical issue has been repaired to your satisfaction. I sometimes wonder what the hell I would do or where I would take my lady should she require some sort of work I was not capable of doing.......I fear I would have to travel several hundred miles to find a competent dealership just as you did...

Hope you are well...KLR or not...it is a great few minutes of refreshment to just "get away"....Kindest regards...S.B...

..I finally got the beast out for about 100 miles day before yesterday..first time in about 3 months..spring's almost here..picked up about 2 lbs of salt I immediately washed off when I got home..

Thank God WDOT and the local munnies quit using much salted sand for winter traction in this area. Straight sand is mostly the order of the day. They do however spray de-icer all over bridges and overpass's which in reality is just as bad as salt.

When we get a nice day where the roads dry out a bit the de-icer (mag or calcium chloride)( with a rust inhibitor...yea right!) turns to powder and gets all over everything just from traffic picking it up and blowing it around. Once its on the surface of our bikes or cars one must take great care to get as much washed off as possible. It is corrosive as hell...

My wife who is both scotch with a dollar and is a clean freak....burns herself out keeping vehicles cleaned and de-gukked....what a gal.......SB.
