I'm STILL waiting on my painter to finish my parts! I must have chosen the slowest painter in the country... 4 weeks and counting.

Hombre, is your bike going to be ready for the first Maxton run?

Looks like I'm going to miss the first Maxton meet on April 5th. No gas tank means no new header work and no tuning. Next Maxton date is May 17.

repainted the GAS tank?

shame to waste all that pretty tribal blue....I would have swapped you my tank and bought the rest of your "hand me downs"

tribal blue is sure purty....although every time I look at new tins or think of repainting, I think the old gray mare hasn't let me down yet....

If we had swapped tanks long ago, that would have worked. But remember, I permanently attached mounting tabs for my upper fairing and cut off the FN bear claw tabs way back when. So my Tribal Blue tank would have been useless to you. I'm going to auction the rest of the Tribal Blue skins on Ebay... unless you want them.

I'm told the "new" clean tank (sans bearclaw tabs) looks hot in triple black... awaiting blue flames.

In my experience painters always take longer than they say. But it's all worth the wait in the end. Shoot with your apparent finances, just buy a tank off of Ebay for the run, then put it back on Ebay after you get your stuff back.

It would probably cost me too much to paint my tank to match.... :-(

I'd be better off waitign for a full tin set in whatever color when the time comes...but those tribal blue being rare... somebody should snatch up your leftover bits quickly...thanks for the offer

I was trying to buy a complete tribal orange bike at one point... actually had the wife convinced that haveing two rockets made sense ( don't ask)

oh well, the best thing about not being in a hurry is waiting for that once in a blue moon deal to pop up....

can't wait to see your finished bike......

Better read the part about special mounting tabs for my race fairing again!

Over the years I have used several different painters, all pros and all either worked in body shops or owned them. The all had wonderful paint booths and were set up to paint just about anything that came along. All of them took forever (meaning months and in one case over a year). They hate doing motorcycle stuff because it is small and has to be perfect. They can make lots more money on auto collision jobs. I've been buying paint equipment to do my own and get around this problem. I just bought a real nice little MAC touch up HVLP gun and it should be perfect for side covers and tanks. I've got a DeVilbiss production gun that is just awesome but is a little much for small jobs. These guns are works of art, I want to stick them in a display case.

I've been doing some lacquer on some of the old cars and it comes out nice but I'm going to shoot the old Triumph with some urathane epoxy stuff so gas and oil won't mess with it. None of that stuff is cheap and if you do a clear over it it gets pricey. I have a local kid that does super art and I might have him put some bomber art on it or the like.

The best thing to do with painters is call them at least twice a week. Don't get pissy with him... just bug him and drive him nuts :D

With one local "artist" after 6 months I had to go pick everything up. All he managed to do was sand everything down. The guy couldn't afford to heat his shop anymore in the winter, so you think he would try and get some jobs done to pay the bills.

Tom, the guy that I ended up having paint the tank and fenders on my Bonnie used House of Kolors urethane clear coat. Very nice and gas resistant.

Here's an example.
