clicking/ticking noise once bike is hot

I’ve noticed that when the bike’s temperature gauge reaches halfway, there’s a clicking sound at idle. It wasn’t there before and doesnt happen when engine is not half way hot in guage, the noise seems to have started recently.
I’m also due for a valve clearance/adjustment.

The sound is like a fast metallic tick—not exactly like two spoons hitting, but more like the ticking of a mechanical clock, just much quicker.


What could be the possible cause of this? How can I troubleshoot to pinpoint where it’s coming from? Has anyone else experienced this?


It seems to be coming from the left side, possibly around the radiator fan area/clutch area, but not directly from the engine block area

Any idea?

i once left an old part laying on top of the motor and it managed to move forward into the fan so as soon as the fan came on (about 200 degrees) i had this weird noise. might check out the fan try to spin it or activate with tuneecu.
