Broken Triumph crash bar....

I was cleaning the chrome on my bike yesterday. While applying the polish on the left side crash bar, I noticed that it seemed loose. Looking up at the top where the bar attaches to the engine, I could see that the flat ring portion that gets bolted to the engine was broken. Right in the middle. I used a couple of tie-wraps to secure it until I can get it repaired/replaced at the dealer.

I don't know what caused this break. The bike has not been down and I haven't hit the crash bar on anything. My guess is that this is a manufacturing defect.

UPDATE: I took a closer look yesterday in the light and realized that my description of the break point was incorrect. What actually broke is the flat ring portion that is bolted on to the engine. Imagine a washer broken in half and you'll get the picture. I have corrected the above text. Sorry to have caused any confusion.

Curt, any chance you could photo the weld point where it broke loose? I'd be interested to see how it came apart

hey hombre, I got the rivco ones and think there piss poor as well. I'm sorry I didn't get them made myself, I'm sure it wouldn't cost any more and you get what shape and thickness you want.

I think they would hold up if you lay it down gently, but doubt they would do much with a bit of speed. they are also too close to the radiator and really wouldn't save anything re pegs, bars or tank damage. My hips are ****ed so I lay my harley down quite often at a stop because my hip collapses at times. I had bars made for it and never damaged anything. I haven't had it happen lately due to having the worst hip replaced, the other one is now playing up and I don't think the rivco's will save very much at all. Am seriously looking for someone down here to make me heavier bars. I'm in a new state so I have to look for someone experienced. :idea:

That left front bar breaks just over the hole of screw is a major problem over here in germany. The braking is a cause of the vibrations! There are already 7 damages know in the german rocket forum. This is a design fault from triumph, the bars are too weak,the steel is too thin at mounting points, to say it right away its bull****! I've driven before a Moto Guzzi California, the bars at this bike are 10 times stronger, same is it with the side stand the guzzi ones are bulletproof but not the one at the rocket.
