Battery optimiser recommended?

After nearly 3 years the battery is showing some signs of not wanting to start after a coldish night.

I have just managed to get some power to get a 300w powerpack with 240v inverter http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :IT&ih=005
so that I can run a battery optimiser.

Does anyone reccomend anything in particular especially if available in the UK?

Yes, Optimate every time. It's looked after the batteries on 3 bikes for me, no probs, no complaints.

Me too, 3 years 2 months & all fine.

I swear by the Optimate - has kept batteries good on 3 bikes now.

Wired their plug directly to the battery & it just sticks out behind the side panel. I plug it in every time I get home.

In fact looking at the spec of the Powerpack it seems that you can just connect 12 volts direct to the battery so no need to have an Optimate. I assume from the write up that the Powerpack could not overcharge the battery but this may be only as long as it is not left plugged into the mains.

Thats worth checking...one of the reasons I bought this is that I have no access to power in my garage so it wont be plugged in.

If that doesn't pan out then optimate it is.

Optimate or any other similar contraption in my opinion is a waste of money. How many of you plug your car into a similar device every night.
Never had one and never needed one, know people that have used them and still had batteries go down on em
Average life span of a battery is 4 years, some last a lot longer. Battery on my last Harley lasted the seven years i had the bike with no fancy gadgets.
This is just that usual, you need to buy this and that bull**** for your bike routine
If your battery is on its way out it will let you know usually in the colder weather, good time of year for me, work-wise.. Batteries, Alternators, Starter-motors etc :wink:

If your bike is fitted with an alarm, even one with a battery 'safe' mode, your bike will last 3, maybe 4 days before the battery will be dead.

It is not good for a battery's life to be constantly run down then recharged again.

For anyone that cannot ride every single day, a device such as Optimate would be a good investment and would prolong the life of a battery, not to mention that your bike will not have a flat battery the day you want to ride it.

Makes no sense !!!
The whole thing should run hours on a watch battery.. Months on a motorcycle battery.

Somethings wrong there me ode mines alarmed and it dont flatten the battery.I only use the bike at weekends.Id be late for work if i had to unlock the bike from its safe.

Longest mines been left is nine days with alarm on, and no probs whatsoever firing it up.
If you are gonna lay it up for a couple of months or so in a cold climate, take the battery off and put it inside somewhere warm and it will be fine :wink:
