Looks fixable........

It takes a little elbow grease, but what you have looks fixable. Finishing up with 1600-2000 grit wet n dry paper, then compound will bring it back. Can you can trust them to do this?????????
If you want this wheel salvaged professionally, there are several places that I have sent VERY expensive car wheels to be trued/ welded/ polished, etc. I don't at this moment know if they service MC wheels, although I don't see why not. (I will check tho)...The drawback is the TIME!!! This would be something I would plan for down time (like winter). When these guys get done with a wheel, you can't tell where the repair(s) were done and they look better than new.

You say he is your local tunesmith/bike mechanic, by the damage I would guess he used hand tools which would be a right pita.

Dedicated tyre fitting shops generally can afford big bucks fitting machines that don't damage wheels, consequently that's where I make for.
