Another idle problem

I have the Jardines, power commander, no secondary plates, run 91 Octane, and have a resistor to ground out the ecu making it think it is in 4'th, but I have a switch and can return to regular gear selection. I have had various air intake setups most recently completely stock, (wanted the paper filter for the ride to MotoGp) and last weekend I removed the snorkel from under the seat for the first time. It ran ok for 50-100 miles and then began to decel pop pretty bad. Yesterday I ran another 100 miles in pretty hot weather and lots of traffic, and it decel pops as bad as it did before the power commander and it will not even come close to idle. I of course still ride it cause the worn amal carbs on the '70 Bonnie have made me adept at holding an "amal" idle with my right wrist as I approach a traffic light. I have a few things to try, will keep you posted.

I cannot go to Reno. I am involved in a project with school that has four critical meetings, one of which is that weekend, Sat. (Sucks because as long as I can't go, I would certainly go to the El Camino swap meet and show, but it is the same morning as the conference.

Maybe make sure the right tune is still in the power commander...... it seems odd that it would start popping on decel all the sudden............

Interesting. I thought it made perfect sense that the decel popping began with the removal of the snorkle which in turn I believe makes the motor run leaner. I thought the idle likewise was a victim of the new lean conditions and the attempt of the ecu to correct the problem. (all of it made worse by the absence of the secondary plates.)
First step, I put the snorkle back under the seat with a little duct tape and rode over to the gas station to fill up, (still with 91 octane, don't want to change too many things at one time). Idle is fixed, no popping,... until it warmed up and then all is bad, popping and no idle. Turned on the quick fix on the power commander and ran the low and mid range full rich, no substantial difference.
Next I will drag the computer out to the garage, and hook up, see what harm I can do with the PC III software. Suspect I am on the wrong track.

Yes, I am convinced that Tuneboy is the way to go. Problem is I have no dyno (that I have found yet) that will work with Tune boy. This is Dyna-jet / Power Commander country evidently. Power commander is not responding to my computer. It doesn't seem to be doing what it is supposed to do when it starts up. Doesn't query the unit on the bike. Very annoying.

Sorry dude, w/o a dyno or way to check your A/F? You're just guessing with the PC...

You might need to tweak the idle up mechanically! There is some fine screw adjustment behind the stepper motor. This has been the only way for some of us to rid the idle issue altogether.

Sorted it out enough for me to ride , thats good enough for me

I agree with Miami that it's just guessing without a dyno and the O2 data, but even when we made those Banzaii runs, killed the ignition and pulled the plugs to 'read' them, I was just guessing. LOL But if I could, I would have been happy to retrieve the current map, play with making it richer, even pig rich just to see if it affects the idle and popping, then reload the 'good' map or load the map from Dyna jets site, as they have my map, I believe developed on my bike when it was a mule at Jardine. Like to see if the map is corrupt, and I'd like to know how that happens.
Anyway, no joy, the power commander is I believe dead. I am unable to get the computer to answer with anything except the message, "PC not responding". Ran it on three computers with motorcycle power and 9 volt supply both. No joy. Can still ride it, but I have to hold the idle with my 'Amal wrist'.
Will try to contact Wayne and place my order tomorrow.
