Almost there!

Hey Captains!
I’m about to become one of you and buy R3T. Love everything about the bike and absolutely fascinated by the engine. My intentions are long rides (5-10 days), and as I understood from what you wrote here the stock seat and screen would have to be replaced. So be it.
The only question left to be answered is engine heat. I searched the forum and found that it does produce heat (as it should with THIS size) both by the block itself and the radiator when the fan kicks on. Then goes the headers wrap, getting rid of the screen and lowers (BTW are they easy detachable?), etc.
All in all it depends on what one regards as heat problem.
I’m currently riding HD Street Glide and would like to hear from those of you who had a chance to compare HD Touring and R3 heat wise.

I can't help you on the comparison (I have had only the Classic) but as for the seat you may want to hold off on getting rid of it so soon. For some riders that seat is perfect, other riders (big framed, heavier than say 170 lbs...these are just examples) may need a different type seat. Before you give up on a possibly great seat and throw away any money, I'd at least ride it thru to the first service and see what you think, if it turns out to be a PITA, then start looking at some options.

There is a thread currently on the board about heat wrap, you may want to look into that and see if that is a possible solution. Supposedly it fits under the chrome pipe covers. Other than that....it is a big engine it's going to be hot. I have lowers on mine and some say they ditched them and it made a difference, but me, working in hot enviornments most of my adult life (Machinst Mate in the Navy for 21 years), and working for KBR in Somalia, Marshall Islands, Djibouti (twice) and in Afghanistan (twice) it doesn't bother me at all...but to each their own.

I had a Suzuki VL 1500. It's not that much worse, considering I now have 2X the displacement! Got the R3T last July. Live in AZ. My wife complains about the heat a little during the summer. Loves it in the winter. Wants to know how she can get less in the summer and more in the winter. Women? I plan to do the header wrap soon. Should help us both, as that is the side she complains about.

The seat? I'm 280+ lbs. I plan on replacing mine next spring! Daylong custom made.
Love the R3T! Don't think anything could replace it!

You're going to want that engine heat during those German winters.

The screen is quick detach so you're set there. You may want the taller "Roadster" screen, however, depending on your height. I'm 5'10" and got buffeting with the stock screen. The Roadster screen is 7 inches higher.

The Rocket doesn't put out anymore heat than the Street Glide (nice bike, btw).

Welcome to the forum and make sure you get a black one, its a well known FACT they're fastest.

It looks like I have to get two bikes
One to show that I'm the fastest on the autobahn (no speed limits in Germany) and one for international traveling (to pass Italian cops on their Alfas ).

Welcome to the forum and you'll love your Rocket! In addition to my '07 Rocket III Standard I ride a '92 FLHS. Though mine's an Evo, the exhaust is routed the same. When I'm sitting in traffic and it's hot out, the Hog puts out as much heat as the Rocket does under the same conditions. No difference while riding, either.
