As I'm hopeless with all things electrical I'd really appreciate some advice.
The America has the warning lights on the tank, which someone 6' tall and wearing a full face has trouble seeing. Amanda has asked if I could add another indicator warning light somewhere up next to the speedo on the bars - she keeps forgetting to cancel the indicators and doesn't want a car pulling out because they think she's turning.

I've bought a nifty little green LED light. Is it a simple matter of splicing into the two wires running to the existing warning light or do I need to do something more complicated? Any advice appreciated - before I bodgy something up.

Splice to wiring hidden in the head light for a clean look here is a 08 schem to refer.
Need anything else drop me a line.

Sorry to anyone offended about me posting other crap to help a bro out even though it is not R3

I have to agree Phil. Thanks for reminding me about that gadget. It's such an important safety issue I find it hard to believe that self cancelling indicators aren't required on bikes. The only near miss I've had was due to my leaving my indicator on.

I went ahead anyway and added an extra warning light just under the speedo. The nifty one I bought is LED and was easy to install by splicing into the 2 wires connected to the OEM light under the 'dash' on the tank, and it worked! Sort of. I didn't realise that LEDs are polar specific and this meant that it only worked one way - left or right, not both. A bit of head scratching and some trial and error and I worked out what the problem was.

The lesson here is to use a light with a conventional bulb or install 2 LEDS with reversed wiring. I did the latter and Amanda's thrilled that not only can she now see the warning light flashing but she can tell which side indicators are on.
