This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Triumph Bonneville. What's the consensus? Think the Rocket will be around in fifty years?

No where near as iconic as the first Bonnies but I can see where people will look back and say, "Did they really build a motorcycle with that big of an engine?"

"I also read that alot of Rocket riders put car tires on the back. What idiots!"

I was talking with a dealer and he told me a survey was sent out asking that if they got rid of a model between the Roc and Speedmaster, which would they choose?

I keep thinking about going with a smaller bike, but every time I get on the Rocket, I just ask myself "Why?"

The Speedmaster or Bonneville are A LOT less expensive to maintain in just tire cost alone! Not to mention, better MPG, not as much oil during an oil change, no coolant to change, less valves to check shims, etc.

But, then you give up the awe inspiring presence of the Rocket, tire smoking torque at almost any legal speed, 0-100 mph in "1,2,.. oh ****, I'm already there!" Plus the weight of the Rocket makes it very stable and resistant to wind blasts on long distance trips.

You're still riding a Triumph either way.. just depends on if you just want to cruise.. or CRUISE!.. :)

I do enjoy my Rocket though!

I'd think the obvious choice to discontinue would be the Speedmaster being as it's basically the same bike as the America.

I would actually consider the Bonnie SE edition. I really like that bike.

But as for the America and the Speedmaster, I considered those two but at 86(5)? cc's and then you look at the Rocket III and my better half rides almost 80 % of the time with me......It just had to be the RocketIII.

I really enjoyed my SprintST, but now we have more room and are a little more laid back attitude. If I don't want to strafe the road, I don't have too.

I think the Rocket 3 will be remembered kind of like the 426 hemi Cuda. Bad as hell but eventually falling victim the the economy and the price of gas.

I think the America and Thunderbird have a better chance of being around. I love the Roc but it's not that classic looking. If she weren't so **** mean looking, I'd have to say she's like the middle sister in the looks category.:p

They loaned me a Bonnie last time I was in for service, I'm not sure I would feel right taking it out in rush hour traffic. It gave me the same uneasy feeling a 1.6 civic or Yugo gave me, fun but slow.
