  1. Lining up the bolt holes when fitting the rear carrier

Yes RocketEd that's exactly the problem - a great idea, so I will try that - and hope I haven't wrecked the threads in the captive bolt. Thanks Mike
  2. Lining up the bolt holes when fitting the rear carrier

Tried everything Atomsplitter - including a ratchet strap to try and lift the fender (and its associated bracket). It sort of worked but to put the original fat bolt through, the holes have to be absolutely in line and I just couldn;t do it on both sides at the same time. I've settled for...
  3. Lining up the bolt holes when fitting the rear carrier

I've had the carrier on and off several times, but this time I cannot get the two chunky bolts to line up with the captive nuts on the rear fender framework. Is there a special order that you have to tighten stuff up. TBH I think if I tried to leave the carrier off now, I'd still have a...
  4. wheel polisher?

Does anyone know of a good alloy wheel polisher in the north of England? Thanks Mike
  5. increase in low rpm clonking

Hmmmm ..... IMHO the Roadsters since 2012 do not actually 'like' keeping the revs up. I'm not saying they aren't more powerful than the earlier machines but my own 2012 and a 2014 one I rode both got very fussy and buzzy above 3200 rpm. I cannot remember that being the case on my 2009 model. Mike
  6. increase in low rpm clonking

Just thought you guys would like to know that a PROPER throttle body balance completely cured this problem. Driving at low speed on low revs is now creamy smooth and a real pleasure. I paid to have them done by the dealer a couple of years ago and tested them afterwards outside the shop with...
  7. Lifting a Roadster safely

I used to have two triangular brackets with pins for my old Rocket but when I got the Roadster, I got a pal to make two new ones with holes instead of welded pins. These I painted black and bolted them in position permanently. No-one notices them. They are bolted with just enough slack to let...
  8. increase in low rpm clonking

Hmmmmm .... you may be right but I don't think that's what is going on. My understanding of lugging an engine is being in the wrong gear so that if you open the throttle to try and accelerate it bogs down and only accelerates slowly. When my bike is making these noises I can easily accelerate...
  9. increase in low rpm clonking

I suspect you are right. But previously it lugged quite happily. What is actually clonking when the engine lugs - is it misfiring in the engine or something in the gearbox or shaft drive or clutch? Thanks Mike
  10. increase in low rpm clonking

The huge amount of torque that the bike produces has always let me 'tootle' around at low revs in a relatively high gear, but lately it seems this is causing a clonking which I can feel through the footpegs - it feels like the clutch is disengaging and then engaging again or maybe some effect of...
  11. Easy brackets - help needed

Good idea Teedee. I will take a look tomorrow Mike
  12. Easy brackets - help needed

Well that worked. Slackened off all the bolts and the EZ brackets went on pretty easily. Then I tightened them bit by bit until the brackets still just fit. Problem is I don't think the bolts are now torqued up enough. Mike
  13. Easy brackets - help needed

Hmmmm - just found this in a very old thread about EZ brackets, and I think this might be the problem (the slots in the brackets mounted on the bike being slightly out of line when you look along the line of the bike) 'TAKE CARE when tightening the mounts on the bike. If you torque the front...
  14. Easy brackets - help needed

I have never really been able to use the easy brackets very errrm 'easily' and today I cane to fit the panniers after they had been off for a couple of years and I could get one to go on with a bit of hammering with a piece of wood but the other - no way. On the real problem one, I can get each...
  15. alternative mounting for the sports screen?

Yes I have assumed that you'd have to take off the top yoke as there seems to be only one 'squeeze' point for the clamp - which is of course what makes it so neat. But I have another question. The triumph clamps put the bolt hole for the screen brackets about on the centre line of the fork...
  16. alternative mounting for the sports screen?

I saw an MRA screen that mounted directly to the Rocket's handlebars and wondered whether anyone has come up with brackets that allow the blade of the sport screen to be similarly fastened to the bars rather than having to use the ugly front fork mounting kit. Mike
  17. ABS not working after rear wheel removal

problem resolved itself last night after several switch-offs and on again. Weird (rims and tyres are stock RIIIR) Mike
  18. ABS not working after rear wheel removal

Thanks Ed. I did take a look at the ABS rotor the other day and could see no obvious damage. The little black wire and sensor all seemed fine too but I will take a closer look. I did wonder whether the rotor could go on back to front or whether it has some spacers or something to put it at...
  19. ABS not working after rear wheel removal

I'm getting a bit alarmed. They are implying it MIGHT not be their fault. They are saying they test rode the bike. And also that my checking the ABS fuses might have done it. Also the fact that I have TuneECU could mean that something I have done with that could have caused the ABS failure...
  20. ABS not working after rear wheel removal

Unfortunately he could well say that as he returned the bike to me in January and I haven't discovered the problem until 2 months later. Hopefully he will have recorded the mileage when the bike was in his shop. Mike
