  1. New bike. First ride. Oil leak...

Hmmmmmm......pretty much still that way now. I can't resist giving my HD buddies grief over that, amongst other things. I sometimes e-mail/text them links for oil-absorbent garage mats and such. :D
  2. Is This the Correct Cable?

As a relative newb at doing this stuff on the R3 and using the TuneECU program, I doubt that I'm the one to be giving anyone else advice or instructions on this sort of thing. I spent time reading other R3 captains' posts on this subject and the Tune ECU instructions before changing anything...
  3. Is This the Correct Cable?

I got the time today to put all the pieces together, hooked the laptop up to the R3, read/saved the existing map (20227). I did ran a comparison with the map I was intending to load (20222) and didn't see any differences except in the mapping for rpm 4800+ and throttle 15%+. I went ahead and...
  4. Do you have a gun in your House? A must read.

When I go in for my annual physical, the first thing they do is have you stop in the hallway to get weighed. The nurse at my doc's office doesn't even bat an eye when I set my wallet, keys, cell phone and pistol on the counter next to the scale so that all that stuff doesn't get added to my...
  5. Is This the Correct Cable?

Thanks very much. Is there any substantial difference between using TuneECU (with the cable I just bought) and TuneBoy on a stock bike like mine to eliminate the gear 1-3 timing retard and open the secondaries?
  6. Sold the Rocket

Sent you an e-mail on the Jardines and PC3.
  7. Is This the Correct Cable?

Thanks guys. I'll get that cable ordered today. I do run Win7 on the desktop, but my wife's laptop is XP. I've got the TuneECU site bookmarked, so I can snag those drivers.
  8. Is This the Correct Cable?

USB Cable for Triumph Motorcycle TuneECU Program : Amazon.com : Automotive I was going to get a GiPro, but after perusing several posts, thought the better option would be to use TuneECU to achieve the same improvements and possibly more. I'd like to start off by ordering the right cable...
  9. New R3 Owner

    Howdy from Texas.:bch:
  10. Pure Gas vs. Gas with Ethanol

+1 Adding ethanol to gasoline is about as brilliant as putting the Federal government in charge of health care. You think health care is expensive now, just wait until it's "free".
  11. A Manly (and inexpensive) Horn Upgrade

That's funny. When I ordered my pair, they sent me two high-note Magnums (I guess you ended up with the extra low-note from my pair). When I contacted them, they were very apologetic, sent me a low horn immediately, and said to just keep the extra high-note horn. I just installed the spare...
  12. Triumph shirts

Mex, where did you get that one? I love it!
  13. A Manly (and inexpensive) Horn Upgrade

Based on everything I've ever seen, the Stebel Magnum kind of horns (electro-mechanical) do not have polarity. Hook up one positive and one negative to each horn and go with it.
  14. Highway/Engine guard bars

Sounds like you have the German "uber-bars" :D
  15. Highway/Engine guard bars

If you have a helper and an MC/ATV jack, it's quite easy. I suppose a regular floor jack can be used with a piece of wood on it. Have the helper sit on the bike and hold it upright. Jack the motor up just enough to take the weight off that bolt so that it slides easily. The rest was pretty...
  16. Highway/Engine guard bars

I put a set of the new/improved Triumph front bars on my '05 They seem quite solid and are 1-1/4" diameter.
  17. A Manly (and inexpensive) Horn Upgrade

Agreed. Just don't face them toward yourself. With regard to horn selection, pretty much anything is better than the stock moped buzzer.
  18. Time for a new Helmet

If you shop it well, you can spot some really good deals on Shoei or Arai. I always look at Competition Accessories website. The Arai Quantum II helmet I have now (and like) I bought as a leftover new from a MC shop in Massachusetts via eBay for less than half retail.
  19. A Manly (and inexpensive) Horn Upgrade

I ended up being unwilling to chance it. I figure the extra $22 for the pair of chrome bar clamps (on eBay) was worth it to avoid any potential problems that might arise over time with them mounted below the radiator. It should also make for a more solid and stable mount. I just got my...
  20. Buffeting

I'll add my 2 pence in as well for a good helmet helping to eliminate the problem. I'm wearing an Arai Quantum II (full-face). Buffeting hasn't been an issue on my '05 even with the factory screen removed. Now, eating too much at the local buffets (especially the Chinese or Mexican ones) is...
