    New Marine

My middle son, Chris, is swearing in this morning then hopping on a bus for Parris Island. He's going to have the hottest 3 months of the year there. I am very proud of him, but am also missing him already. I know he will be a different man when I see him at graduation.

    Shinko and Raptor

Lucille needed some new shoes, so I went with the Raptor 225/55 in the rear [Had it on for a few days and I really like it better than the 245/50 I took off. Can't even tell it's not a motorcycle tire!] and the Shinko 747 for the front. 747 TOURING/CRUISER FRONT RADIAL TIRES - JCWhitney I...

    225/55 16 speedo correction

I am changing rear tires this week from a 245/50 16 Yokohama [Which lasted 16k] to the 225/55 raptor. Is there a tune boy speedo correction figure for this tire, or is there not enough differance in height to matter?

    Merry Christmas

Lisa and I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas! [If you don't Celebrate Christmas, you had no reason to click on this thread.] I haven't been on in a while. We are building a new house and the motorcycles have been sadly neglected for the last couple months. Plus it has been wet and cold...

    Motorcycle songs for Katie's CD

OK, Katie wants some song suggestions for the RAA CD she is going to put together. One of my favorites is "I'm the other kind" by Brother Phelps. A Steve Earle song, but I like this version better. The original "Life is a highway" by Tom Cochran [Not that wimpy-assed version by Rascal...

    Nursing Home Massacre

I don't know what to say about this. Carthage is my home town. The shooter lived about 5 miles from me. [I did not know him.] The Police Officer who brought the gunman down wrote me a ticket a couple of years ago. The most shocking thing is that Lisa's Mom is a resident there. She is...

    A Bridge Too Far?

I want to ride over this bridge. Any Europeon riders been there? Hombre, you spend time in Spain. The Millau Viaduct is part of the new E11 expressway connecting Paris and Barcelona and features the highest bridge piers ever constructed. The tallest is 240 meters (787 feet) high and the...

Final drive blowing fluid out vent

Anybody had this happen? I saw a little trail from the vent on the final drive the other day. I wiped it off and checked fluid level, it was ok. Got home from work yesterday and there was a pretty good trail of fluid from the vent. I changed it last about 4k miles ago with a full syn. gear...

    Blue Power Ranger [Wout] Update

Had a request for info about my friend Wout's recovery from his crash. He goes to therapy 3-4 times a week and he really works hard. He is slowly regaining more use of his right hand. His speech had gotten slurred for a while, and the Doctors ran him through all kinds of tests, but everything...

    Road to Damascus

Any of you Virginia riders ever ride 58 from Independance to Damascus? Lisa and I found that road on the advice of a nice old gentleman weekend before last. Very curvy and pretty road, a lot of traffic though. Esp. near Damascus. Trucks, vans and trailers loaded down with mountain bikes...

    Please be careful.....

In the past week, three people close to me have gone down. First a young co-worker, Terry, was riding his old Yamaha fz750 in to work when a car in front of him stopped suddenly. Terry was sliding the rear tire and fishtailing and got thrown highside off the bike. He grabbed his bike up and...

    Mountain Riding video

Cobbled some of the footage from last weekend into a video. The first road is hwy 151. I was taking it somewhat easy because Lisa was behind me. When we got halfway through the Dragon the first time, I motioned her past so I could get some footage of her. I had to put the pegs on the ground...

    Oh hail

Got caught in a hail storm going home from work today. 1/4 to 1/2 inch pieces. I was riding through a bad thunderstorm, not really minding the rain because it was 100 degrees today, when I started to get pelted. Made it to an underpass about a mile farther on and waited out the hail. Only...
