    Thanks. The gun showed #2 pipe much cooler than #1 or #3. The popping or tapping sound from the pipe could be unburned fuel detonating in the exhaust pipe. My 10X15 shop is currently occupied by my Harley getting some maintenance. When I move it out, I'll continue on the Rocket.

    Hello all, just got my first rocket at 61yrs old

    Congrats and good luck with the trans. I got my Rocket Roadster new in 2014 when I was 66. Still riding it at 72. I had my transmission reworked by Robinson Industries. Engine mods by Carpenter racing. 230 HP & 170 ftlbs at the rear wheel.

    I tapped out the two smaller wheel bearings with a drift and hammer like the service manuals says. I did hear the hammer hitting metal. I plan on installing new bearings by simultaneously drawing them in with a threaded rod and two metal discs as prescribed in the service manual No hammer...

    Thanks. I already knew that, having done industrial maintenance. Tomorrow I'm machining a pair of discs to draw the bearings into the wheel. I'll recess the center facing the bearing so that the pressure is on the outer race, not the inner race.

    Sounds reasonable. Snugging up would probably be about 60 ftlbs? Maybe a little Loctite on the nut for good measure?

    I believe so. It expands inside the bearing with a lip that catches the I.D. of the bearing. It seems like a good tool, but the bearing is stubborn - must be a female bearing. Today, I'll retry the method prescribed in the manual.

    Thanks. Just had a new tire mounted at dealer. They said they thought my bearings were going south after they mounted the tire. They offered to install new bearings. I don't know if they were going to dismount the tire. I don't want to pay their labor if I can get around it.
