Is this normal wear?

I've been wondering about the wear on the rear tire, specifically towards the edges. This is a relatively new tire, so not much wear, but I see it's getting the same 'ripple' effect in the edge rubber as the previous one got. Handles fine, just wonder if others get the same ripple effect. (Just starting to take the snakes head off)

I think roads are different all over. That probably makes a big difference in tire wear. Here's mine before I replaced it with a, now super expensive, Exedra max. I do see it looks a bit smoother than yours.

It certainly is the roads we ride on. Usually rain damaged roads where the exposed gritty aggregate tears at the sidewalk area in sweeping turns or even unsealed roads have the same effect. There are some harsh roadway surfaces out there depending on where you reside. Salted roadways in the winter do heavy damage to roads and expose the aggregate also. Other than that everything looks good. The Cobra looks like his days are numbered.

The compound distribution in the tire can also affect how fast it wears. The softer stuff is usually on the outside of the tread where centrifugal forces are greatest to maximize the frictional surface. Riding straight up the compound can be harder since it doesn't have any lateral g-load.

Thx guys, yes could definitely be the road surface. Most of the roads in NZ are Tar Seal, (sharp / coarse chip) not bitumen or concrete, well, not where I live & ride anyway. I'm going to firm up the rear a bit & see how that goes for rider feel & eventually see any difference in wear.
I run (ATM) 39/39 psi in the tires, I found 42/42 like riding on rocks, then I softened up the back end to make it more comfortable, which it is now, maybe a tad soft, so I'll firm it up a bit.
I've put Sykik TPMS on it a while ago, I'm amazed at how hot the rear gets, could also be why the tread goes like it does. I'd recommend the Sykik, it's accurate with my digital gauge & gives good info on temp & pressure.

Well, to be fair, I do tend to power out of corners, with gusto at times, just feels great blasting out of a bend & the bike standing back upright during it & rocketing off down the road to the next corner.
I know what you mean i could save on tires but it would be boring
