US 2005 Rocket built in March 2004, Cat or not?

I'm confused by some of what I have been reading. Does a US 2005 Rock have catalysts in the box or not?

is it in California or not? all have a box, some are empty, some are not!

It's in NJ and was origianlly bought new from an NJ dealer. I have to assume it isn't a CARB bike. I have a box, don't know what is in it.

Is there a way to tell from operating temp? I could shoot the box with my laser/IR thermometer and get a temp. If the box is hotter than the pipe feeding it, that should mean there is a catalyst. Sound about right?

Thanks I will check when I get home. Won't be the first time I have gotten a piece of good advice here and then went home in the dark to check it out with a flashlight...TOR's stamps, drain plug location, dresser bar diameter, etc...

BTW I checked and it has an "N." This means that if I put Preds or cat bypass, I am safe from the law?

More restrictive? Isn't the cat bypass all smooth radius pipes? Maybe I am mistaken.

The empty cat box is heavy (12 Lbs) and restrictive (has all the same plumbing as the full cat box). Only down side is you can't jack the bike up with the bypass. Somewhere on this site are pictures of one that was cut open.
