tire pression monitoring ... what do you think about this ???

To me it's hard to beat a digital pressure gauge and an air compressor in the garage.
I check the tires at LEAST weekly and keep the gauge in the pannier with the tools.

My basic philosophy is that the remote sensors tell you what you know. It won't get you air if you need it.
If you check the tires regularly you'll know the pressure. I haven't found much change from day to day, except one day in a freeze. and a few days on a hot road.
 

yes in fact you are right : maybe it is just something for the maybe bit lazy people like me .... lol ... because anyway you have to control it each week and if too little air well you have to get some elsewhere anyway !!! so yes it is like control of the oil min/max, you just have to do it .....
maybe in fact it is just interesting for getting actual temp of the tire ...... and crisis situations of flatting tire going on ....... ;;--))

200 euros for just having it for fun ..... I think I do not need it any longer lol lol .... thanks for your input !!!
 

I am also running the Ride-on tire sealant ( http://www.ride-on.com/motorcycle-formula-mot.html ) so it maintains the balance while I ride. I have not noticed any balance or vibration issues with city or highway driving.

George - last year I bought a TPMS. Very similar if not identical to the fixed one.

I had HUGE issues getting a signal from the rear wheel to the receiver. Had the receiver on the top of the tank. It would pick up a signal from a transmitter fitted to the front rim - but not the rear. I swapped the transmitters over to test.

But anything fitted the rear would only connect if the bike was in the garage. Out on the road - nothing. The issue is it leads you to believe nothing is changing as it just keeps showing the last measured values.

The R3 rim is wide - it's shielded behind wide metal sheet work and exhausts - plus in my case side case frames - basically a Faraday Cage.

I seem to remember you mentioning this in another post, did you ever get feedback from the manufacturers?
 
I'm not sure what the $$$ conversion rate is, I always like to know the exact pressure and temperature before it goes flat.:???:

Spend the money on a small pancake air compressor and set them and ride.
 
Ride-on Smartcaps and Ride-on in both tires. NO problems. When pressure drops 4# below your set pressure, a little light comes on. Easy to check, just look. Ride-on in the tires did the balance thing too. I'm putting some in my Jeep tires too.

I very much doubt they are mfr's - simply resellers. Had some initial feedback - but once they established that both sensors refused to communicate - they stopped mailing. It's quite possible that I simply have too much metal around the wheel.

A shame as it mirrored what we found by sticking tyre temp probes in the rubber after longish runs. The R3 was pushing V rated tyres to their heat limit (and raising pressures) very fast in Spanish summer. Z rated's hardly changed temp/pressure at all.

No not really - sadly just not available in R3 sizes. Most sports bikes and sports tourers run on "Z"s. I can get a set of Z rated for (say) a Trophy for less than an R3 rear. My front is a Z rated M/C rear tyre from Avon - was cheaper than a Cobra.
