Throttle travel

How come when you want to give an R3 full throttle,you have to wrap your hand forward of its normal position?
It just seems that you have to twist the throttle too far.
Every other bike Ive ridden you can get full throttle with your hand in its normal riding position.
 
Ive thought abput using a speed triple 1050 throttle assy, its a shorter throw, it can also be modified with a crescent shapped piece under the wire, there is a mod listed on here somewhere.
most cruisers have long throw throttles, more mellow, too short and it can be too abrupt for daily use.

at the drag strip, I overgrip the throttle with my hand, and have my elbow almost straight up so I can drop it and go to full throttle as soon as I launch and have traction
 
I dont have any play in the throttle cable except for the acceptable amount.
I tend to agree with Regulators opinion that it would be too abrupt for daily use at low speeds if it had less travel.

What we need is a throttle with a cam on it so as you twist you get more response at high speed,but at low speeds it only moves the cable a little.(edit I see you have already suggested that with a crescent shaped piece.)
I still find the throttle a little twitchy at low speed.

I remember that Hombre posted a couple of years back that he had fitted such a crescent shaped piece into his throttle mechanism & reduced the amount of rotation from fully off to WOT.

No idea whether they are available commercially.
 
well I lifted the idea at the time from a sportbiek website, Hombre was just quick and to the point of actually doing it, like he is with anythign he decides to do!


he posted up a how to, and pictures, just dont ask me where cause I cant remember.
 
well funny thing is I'm often known as the "good idea guy" at work..
and sometimes its not the years, its the miles.. and Ive racked up a lot in the last twenty years...
