Thinking of making the switch

Hey everyone.

From Newcastle, Australia. Been doing a lot of reading on here and thinking of making the switch from my 2014 Night Rod. Mainly for the comfort factor on the longer rides, and well I'm just a little bored of it and want to try something new.

Ridden a mates older tourer and another mates 2009 rocket before. But taking a new 2016 roadster for a test ride this arvo.

Either going to buy new or get one 2013+. As I like the blacked out look. Are there any differences between the 13, 14, 15 and 16 models? And is it worthwhile waiting for a 17 model or has it already been confirmed there wont be any changes?

Hello Tvee13 and welcome from Virginia. A few color options difference is one change and some bikes gained ABS along that path somewhere, not sure when. I know the 2014 and newer R3Ts all have ABS but I think the R3Rs got it a few years sooner.

ABS was eased in...in 2013 you had a choice, and supposedly if you got ABS you also got highway pegs. But somehow a lot of R3T's got pegs both with ABS and without.
 
Thanks guys. Rode a 2005 rocket first, then a new one in the matte black/white stripes. Difference was day and night, surpisingly the riding position of the roadster felt pretty good after getting used to it.

Safe to say I'm putting the night rod up for sale and will get a new 2016 R3 as soon as its gone. Just gotta decide between the matte with white or the gloss with red stripes..

Compared to the night rod, the overall power seemed similar. Very different delivery though, I much prefer the immediate torque of the rocket. Pulled a nice wheelstand in first without even touching the clutch!

Much better cornering ability, heaps softer ride. The power didnt blow me away, but I'm guessing after pipes, filter and a tune to open her up a bit it should blow the rod out of the water. Hopefully I can get rid of the rod in a few weeks and get on one of these beasts!
 
Bit the bullet and put down a deposit on a 2014 Roadster with only 4000kms. Will be flying up to QLD next week and riding her home.

Already ordered a TuneECU cable and have my eyes set on some Carpenter pipes. Want to go the tripple 4040 extremes with the bearclaw off and relocate the overflow to under the seat.

Anyone know where I can get them for a good price in Australia? Also is it just the 3 filters I'll need for the mod? Or are there any other parts? I read somewhere about a crackcase filter and a filter for the air temp sensor?

Welcome mate.
You will also need the crank case breather filter - when you tear out all the factory plumbing. its under the air box on the right hand side and has a joining tube to the air box.
You will also need a filter for your air temp sensor located in the plenum just at the throttle bodies - be careful with this - remove from the plenum and put the filter on it straight away so as not to damage it.
Plenty of local exhausts made in OZ, Reband in South OZ and CES in Brisbane.

K&N and Emgo Filters | Flipmeisters Specialty Products has the 16 & 19mm filters.
The k&N 4040's are pretty spendy....
